I first met John some 34 years ago when he was a rider in cruiser class at club, regional and national levels. Even all those years ago he had very strong opinions on how the sport should progress, I fed off these opinions because we shared the same vision. John progressed with his team, Terry's Turbo's, which in turn produced some great riders. Riders such as Ross Hill, Conrad Wesson and Si Fox along with others. I always respected John and his passion and the wellbeing of his team and one time he came charging across the track when one of his team had been disqualified, I knew I was in for a hard time as Race Director! But we always respected each other and sorted things out. I went from Club Captain to Regional Chairman, then National Chairman and representative of BMX on the UCI board and everytime I was wondering what to do next, I would always ring John. He used to say to me "if it was me, I'd do this..." I took on board and respected his comments. When I retired from the sport some 22 years ago, I thought our paths may never sadly cross again, but they did and I was delighted to see him at the Andover Regional a couple of years ago. It was lovely to see my old mate. I joked with him to get up on the start hill otherwise he would miss his moto. I met many people all over the world in BMX racing, but very few like JT who help lay the foundations of the sport for what it is now today. God Bless John xx
